POSITION PURPOSE
The Maintenance Mechanic, under general supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, performs skilled work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of hospital equipment and systems. Maintains electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and other related systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Performs preventive maintenance on electrical, plumbing, mechanical equipment/systems and other facility assets.
- Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the Facilities Supervisor.
- Performs required repair, maintenance, and installation of mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and related systems in the hospital.
- Tests, inspects, and maintains emergency backup systems, such as generators and fire alarm systems.
- Ensures that routine maintenance is performed in accordance with established schedules.
- Follows established procedures for the use and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
- Assists with the preparation of materials and cost estimates for projects and repairs.
- Performs maintenance tasks in a safe and efficient manner, following established safety procedures and utilizing appropriate safety equipment.
- Maintains accurate records and documentation of maintenance and repair work performed.
- Provides assistance and support during major projects or construction.
- Participates in departmental meetings, training, and committees as assigned.
- Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.
- Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members. Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Vocational or Technical training in maintenance or a related field preferred.
Experience: Three years of experience in maintenance or related field preferred, at least one year in a healthcare setting.
Licensure/Certification: Valid driver's license required.
Required Skills: Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently. Basic computer skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent: standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching & climbing.
Occasional: sitting, bending, squatting, kneeling & twisting
Visual and hearing acuity required: Work is both inside and outside.
Possible exposure to: loud noise, extreme temperatures, toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, moving mechanical parts, potential electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens
