Full Job Description
Under general supervision of the Director, the Mammography Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the mammography department, which include the following: the performance of exams, weekly QA, digitizing of previous exams, assisting radiologists in the interpretation of mammograms, the supervision of related personnel, represent the mammography department as a customer service representative to its clientele, keep all paperwork in correct order and up-to-date, make sure that the department functions within the set standards of State and Federal licensing, and that all relevant statistics are available at the request of the Director. Must also possess critical thinking skills and be able to apply them in real time situations.

- Supervises staff in the production of quality mammograms.
- Provides technical leadership to employees by remaining abreast of latest procedures in the field.
- Teaches new or unfamiliar procedures to employees to maintain a well-trained staff.
- Coordinates requests and schedules mammography procedures as needed.
- Evaluates technical quality of mammograms.
- Performs departmental quality control to ensure production of uniform mammograms.
- Participates in the formal teaching programs and in-service education classes as required.
- Responsible for all safety regulations in assigned area of supervision.
- Assumes management duties as assigned.
- Provides the Director monthly mammography statistics as needed.
- Attends all in-services and meetings as required.
- Functions competently in the staff role.
- Adheres to infection prevention protocols.
- Demonstrates an understanding of patient rights, including those pertaining to confidentiality, informed consent and privacy.
- Demonstrates adaptability, problem solving and professional behavior at all times.
- Participates in a systemic, interdisciplinary, and ongoing evaluation of programs, process improvement, and desired client-centered outcomes.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, competence validation; supports department-based goals which contributed to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
- Actively participates in survey readiness activities and assures that department is compliant with all regulatory standards.
- Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.
- Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members. Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.
Requirements
Education: Completion of formal radiology technology program required.
Experience: Three years of experience in mammography with one year supervisory experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Current registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required. An advanced registry in mammography from the ARRT (R)(M) required.
Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of employment, before patient care is administered independently.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent: pushing, pulling, standing & walking.
Occasional: sitting, lifting, carrying, reaching, bending, squatting, climbing kneeling, twisting.
Visual and hearing acuity required; depth perception needed to examine exposed film for pertinent details. Work is mostly inside, with good ventilation and comfortable temperature.
Possible exposure to: toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, moving mechanical parts, potential electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens.
