This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Part-Time Reader Scribe at the Moore County Campus who will be all-in on our mission and who will provide testing and classroom assistance to students with disabilities in order to meet their approved accommodations and help them gain access to all academic opportunities. This position is part-time on an as needed basis, dependent on student needs.
Requirements
EDUCATION
Required: One (1) year of college coursework completion.
Preferred: Associate’s Degree.
EXPERIENCE
Preferred: One (1) year of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend trainings and professional development opportunities to improve skills and stay up-to-date with evolving technologies.
- Identify and respond to students’ needs relating to eligibility for services.
- Assist visually-impaired students with coursework by reading and transcribing text.
- Create written summaries for textbooks and coursework to support students’ comprehension.
- Use assistive technologies, such as optical character recognition and screen-reading software, to help students’ access digital materials.
- Provide support in testing situations, including reading test questions aloud and transcribing student responses.
- Complete performance assessments/evaluations as assigned.
- Read paper and computer tests accurately and clearly, with good pronunciation.
- Record notes accurately during class lectures and/or labs.
- Assist in the implementation of student accommodations.
- Facilitate the student’s ability to participate in a course of study, without assisting with or completing the work associated with the course.

- Ability to arrive early and prepared for classes, tests, meetings, and trainings.
- Ability to write legibly.
- Ability to conduct self in a professional and respectful manner at all times.
- Ability to complete all work-related tasks in a neat, orderly, and timely manner.
- Ability to comply with all college, state, and local policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Ability to maintain student confidentiality and remain in compliance with FERPA, ADAAA, and Section 504.
- Proficient in typing using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Ability to handle stress and remain calm.
- Ability to communicate effectively - both written and verbal.
- Ability to speak clearly, with good enunciation and pronunciation.
- Commitment to discretion and confidentiality concerning sensitive and/or personal information at all times.

Salary: Amarillo College Pay Grades, Pay grade 6 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.
Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)
Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
