RN - PRN in Surgery

Demonstrates through the assessment an understanding of the elements most significant to the surgical care of the patient.                                                                                  

Communicates assessment findings and other appropriate clinical information to other health care professionals involved in the patient’s care.

Ensures that all nursing interventions and patient responses are communicated to responsible practitioners as indicated and that all required components of the nursing process are documented in accordance with standards of practice.

Maintains effective utilization of manpower, equipment, and supplies.

Must be able to demonstrate competency in all procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served and must be able to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs.                                                                 

Performs nursing care in accordance with policy and procedure.          

Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and their clinical condition.                                                         

Communicates drug information to patient when appropriate and documents.  

Monitors the hospital experience from the perspective of the individual patient and functions as a patient advocate.                                                                                   

Assures that all tasks performed are in compliance with related state and federal guidelines, rules and regulations. 

Actively participates in continuous quality improvement activities.

Abides by Yoakum Community Hospital policies and procedures as set forth in the Employee Handbook.

Documents in patient record appropriately.

Performs interventions as plan of care deems necessary.

Provides pre-op, intra-op and post-operative care to all surgical patients including admission and discharge including circulating and/or scrub related duties, as necessary.

In the operating suite, must be available to immediately, physically respond or intervene, as necessary, for patient care and safety.

Communicates with patients, providers and staff appropriate data for patient admission and procedures. 

Assists with all duties in central sterilization as necessary.

Abides by Hospital policies and procedures as set forth in the Employee Handbook.

Assures all tasks performed are in compliance with related State and Federal guidelines, rules and regulations.

Performance of other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Graduate of an approved school of professional nursing.
2. Currently licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing as a registered nurse.
3. Current CPR Certifications.
4. Minimum one (1) year experience preferred.
