Project
The Woodfibre LNG Project (WLNG) is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

Position
The Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer (Operations) is the Technical Authority for all rotating equipment of the Woodfibre LNG Plant. Prior to start-up of the plant, you will work closely with project engineers to ensure that all rotating equipment is designed, built, and commissioned to ensure safe and reliable operations for the operating phase of the plant. During Operations, you will be responsible for all issues relating rotating equipment and will be performing hands on diagnoses, preparation for repairs, and overhauls on various types of rotating equipment. The successful candidate reports directly to the Engineering Manager and will play an essential part in supporting the company through the construction phase of the project into steady state operations.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
- During earlier (EPC) stage of the project,
- work in collaboration with Project staff and Contractor to provide quality surveillance support on rotating equipment preservation, installation, and testing.
- work in collaboration with the Maintenance team and other Discipline Engineers to define fit for purpose maintenance strategies for rotating equipment, spare parts requirements and maintenance procedures.
- During commissioning and start-up phase, provide support to Project Engineers in ensuring prudent procedures and steps are applied for safe and successful plant start-up.
- Thereafter, after steady state operations is achieved, act as the Technical Authority in the plant for issues relating to rotating equipment:
- Especially in complicated and critical cases, provide custom content guidance to maintenance and operations teams, such as in the development of equipment strategies/programs and operating procedures, and during turnarounds.
- Lead diagnostics efforts for rapid recovery during forced outages and where equipment is not performing to specifications.
- Lead Root-Cause-Analysis effort for failures so as the root causes are eradicated.
- Support the execution of rotating equipment Maintenance activities in the field - Lead the Reliability Centered Maintenance & Condition Monitoring program development and execution for rotating equipment.
- Direct and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
Required Experience:
- Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent.
- Registered Professional Engineer in Canada or demonstrate eligibility to be registered.
- Minimum 15 years as Rotating Equipment Engineer, preferably in an LNG Production Facility.
- Advanced working knowledge in at least four of the following areas relating to Rotating Equipment and good working knowledge in the remaining:
- Centrifugal compressors
- Electrical motors
- Machinery in cryogenic application
- Dry Gas Seals and Mechanical seals
- Machinery overhauls and component repairs procedures
- Vibration, Noise Analysis & Rotor-Dynamics
- Machinery Performance analysis
- Anti-surge protection
- Condition Monitoring
- Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA)
Additional Requirements:
- Proven leadership skills to lead teams and mentor junior staff.
- A motivated person with a mentoring and coaching approach.
- Energetic in pursuit of continuous improvement processes.
- Experience working with large multi-disciplinary teams and contractors in a multicultural environment is an asset.
- Communication/interpersonal skills – interacting with front-line workers through to management and all hierarchical levels.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and change priorities within tight time frames.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Expertise with a variety of computer programs.
- A valid driver’s license and passport.

- This role will be a combination of office and site based.
- The position is based in Squamish, BC (Project Site), with an initial stay period at the Vancouver Office, followed by travel to the Module Fabrication Yards in China and a visit to Houston project office as required.
