**This role is hybrid, within the greater Austin, TX area in the United States. Candidates must live in and have authorization to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship not available**
Overall Purpose of Role
The Software Engineer role develops, maintains, and supports software applications including custom-built and packaged systems. This role will perform bug fixes, build new features, run tests, build automation, and maintain user access. They will ensure smooth business processing, build efficiencies, and assist users needing help with systems.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Gather requirements from stakeholders
- Implement new features for custom application based on business requirements
- Fix software defects reported by the business or identified by peers
- Full-stack development (front-end User Interface, back-end code, and database interaction)
- Document the code with comments and maintain robust application documentation
- Implement JavaScript frameworks as necessary to accomplish business goals
- Keep all environments (Development, User Acceptance, and Production) in healthy state
- Deploy code to all environments regularly (requires planned, after-hours publishing to production)
- Check server event logs to troubleshoot deployed applications
- Maintain Internet Information Services health
- Apply SSL certificates as necessary
- Manage code within Git source control
- Communicate with stakeholders and peers in professional and respectful manner
- Adhere to industry compliance standards
- Maintain user security and access
- Continually adapt to business requirements and demands, enabling the business to meet its evolving objectives
- Ticket queue management
- Potential to share Workers Compensation platform and IT technical knowledge with business stakeholders
- Shared responsibility to oversee daily operations of Workers Compensation business platform functionality (Electronic Data Interchange, user management, and issue escalation)
- Potential to assist Data Engineering Team with Extracting, Transforming, and Loading vendor data into data warehouse
- Assist Data Engineering Team and Business Intelligence Team with documentation and testing
- Meet with business stakeholders, vendors, and partners as requested
- Create and maintain complex SQL scripts
- Create and maintain Stored Procedures
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology (Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar)
- Time management and prioritization skills
- Proven problem-solving skills
- Ability to take ownership of projects and be self-directed
- Respectful, clear, and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated and sense of ownership
- Functions well in a team or individually
- Flexibility to work occasional weekends and extended hours
- Ability to communicate technical issues/solutions to a non-technical audience
- 1 year of relational database experience working with queries, views, stored procedures, backup/restore, and performance monitoring
- 1 year of Microsoft Windows Server 2019 or later experience working with event logs, file shares, networking, installing printers, FTP, scheduled jobs, batch processing, etc.
- 1 year of experience managing Windows Server Internet Information Services (IIS)
- Strong understanding of web architecture (HTML, JavaScript, CSS)
- Object-oriented programming understanding
- A working understanding of version control software and practices (Git or TFS)
- A working understanding of AWS, Azure, or other cloud-centric solutions delivery
- Strong understanding of SQL fundamentals
