This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Writing Academic Success Center Supervisor who will be all-in on our mission and who will coordinate all activities of the Writers’ Corner as part of the overall Academic Success Center.
Requirements
EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor’s degree in English or related field or Bachelor’s degree with 15 hours in English.
Preferred: Master’s degree in English or related field.
EXPERIENCE
Required: Five (5) years of experience in tutoring, instruction, or related work.
Preferred: At least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and direct all functions of the Writers’ Corner facility.
- Hire, train, evaluate, schedule, and supervise appropriate personnel.
- Address complaints and resolve problems.
- Provide consistent and timely updates on institutional/departmental expectations, events, and tasks.
- Coordinate embedded tutoring between Writers’ Corner tutors and English faculty.
- Participate in and facilitate performance assessments/observations/evaluations as assigned.
- Coordinate outreach efforts in relation to AC’s Tutoring for Success policy.
- Establish and maintain a presence of virtual asynchronous and virtual synchronous instructional assistance to students participating in distance education.
- Provide professional development to direct reports and other tutors in adherence with standards set by the College Reading and Learning Association. Track and update direct reports’ advancement through CRLA levels.
- Create and present tutor training materials both virtually and in person.
- Present to current students, prospective students, parents, AC faculty and employees, and visiting professionals about services at Writers’ Corner.
- Maintain, supervise, and direct social media and web presence for the Writers’ Corner.
- Track, document, and report student learning outcomes and maintain student outcome and assessment data in the institutional database for evaluation and analysis.
- Maintain the Writers’ Corner budget through projections, tracking, adjusting expenditures for maximum fiscal responsibility.
- Purchase, distribute, and account for supplies according to budget availability.

- Exceptional writing skills.
- Skills in leadership, prioritization, and delegation.
- Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite programs.
- Ability to speak and communicate effectively in email, phone, meeting, collaboration, and public presentation settings.

Salary: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules (actx.edu), Pay grade 13 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.
Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, evenings, weekends, and varying events if necessary.)
Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
