This is a fully remote role for candidates who are based outside of the New York Metropolitan area. For those located in the area, we encourage you to consider our hybrid work arrangement (1-2 days a week in our NYC office). At Convergent Energy and Power, our mission is to make the electrical grid cleaner, more reliable, and less expensive by leveraging state-of-the-art energy storage and distributed generation technologies.
The Commercial Contracting Specialist will work in tandem with, and as part of, Convergent’s fully collaborative legal team, working closely with attorneys and legal operations to build a commercially savvy and agile legal function that manages Convergent’s contracting strategy for our portfolio of battery energy storage, solar, and solar plus storage projects throughout North America.
The Commercial Contracting Specialist will play a key role in the full contract lifecycle for all commercial agreements for the development of Convergent’s projects, as well as other operational, financing, and general corporate matters. Specifically, this role will work directly with Convergent’s procurement and project execution teams to complex project development agreements from negotiation through completion, ensuring contract compliance and legal risk mitigation. The Commercial Contracting Specialist must be able to negotiate commercial terms and drive contract execution in a timely fashion to ensure projects can be developed in a successful and financially sustainable manner.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate seamlessly with Procurement and Project Execution team on key agreements with our contractors and suppliers, soliciting input from internal stakeholders as necessary and driving alignment with the needs of the business, such agreements would include: master services agreements, work orders, scopes of work, EPC agreements, consulting agreements, O&M agreements, long term service agreements, and other commercial agreements as needed.
- Represent Convergent across from commercial and/or legal counterparties in negotiating contracts, analyzing and responding to the counterparty’s positions, and ultimately drive towards contract execution with urgency.
- Take ownership of the entire contracting life cycle, including negotiation, drafting, review and execution of large contracts with numerous exhibits, ensuring alignment and consistency across the contract.
- Develop a well-rounded understanding of Convergent’s contracting priorities, tolerable risk profiles, and go/no-go issues to ensure that projects are financeable.
- Build strong working relationships with outside parties, such as vendors, contractors and account managers to effectively drive results in contract negotiations and execution and maintain respectful persistence in managing timelines.
- Ensure all commercial agreements meet legal, financial, compliance, and regulatory requirements by understanding internal processes and procedures as well as changes in law that may impact contract terms.
- Assist in creating and maintaining contract templates to promote efficient transactions.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- A strong sense of initiative, curiosity, and willingness to learn, as well as enthusiasm to make a valuable contribution to Convergent’s mission.
- An execution mindset, with demonstrated experience and success in negotiating and closing commercial agreements relating to the development, construction, operations, and financing of renewable power and/or energy storage projects or other infrastructure projects.
- Ability to communicate complex issues in a clear and pragmatic manner and a keen understanding of what drives key stakeholders.
- A positive attitude and professional empathy in high-pressure situations and an optimistic approach to overcoming adversity.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple and varied tasks simultaneously, prioritizing as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- J.D. or equivalent legal knowledge preferred; however, this is a non-lawyer position, and bar admission is not required.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
- Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Pro and proficiency in contract and project management software.

Base Salary Range: $75,000- $120,000; Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience.
