Springboard Collaborative invites talented and passionate candidates to apply for the position of Curriculum Editor. The Curriculum Editor will be responsible for conceptualizing, producing, editing, and analyzing curricular content in support of Springboard Collaborative programming. A successful candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, high accountability and dependability, and impeccable attention to detail while being a true team player.  

Springboard Collaborative closes the literacy gap by closing the gap between home and school. We coach educators and family members to help kids learn to read by 4th grade. Springboard envisions a world in which parents and teachers work together—rather than in isolation—to accelerate student learning. The Curriculum Editor supports this goal by producing high-quality, clear, and effective content to support student and family instruction. 

The Curriculum Editor is an individual contributor role. The Curriculum Editor will report to the Director, Curriculum and work as part of the Product & Service department. This is a great opportunity to support an entrepreneurial team to maximize the impact of a rapidly growing organization.

Here are your priorities in the first year:

  • You will revise and establish a plan for the department to adopt a set of editorial standards and authoring guidelines suitable for K-5 student and family instruction. 
  • You will establish a set of accessibility standards for K-5 student and family materials and collaborate with content creators and quality engineers to operationalize compliance to standards. 
  • In partnership with the Content Architect, you will establish an authoring and revision workflow that can be automated leveraging the Content Management System and champion the adoption of that tool to ensure quality content at scale. 

Here are your responsibilities within and beyond the first year:

You ensure the overall editorial quality of digital and printed materials used in programs and courses.

  • Edit materials for grammar, punctuation, and adherence to editorial style.
  • Analyze materials (print and digital) for clearness of expression, logical flaws, repetitiveness, and uniformity of design.

You establish and maintain a unified style guide for all digital and printed curricular materials. 

  • Establish style and format guides for various editing projects, across various media (print and digital), and collateral types. 
  • Ensure that internal partners are trained in, and adhere to, style expectations.
  • Advise internal staff members on questions related to editorial style expectations.

You collaborate with other individuals and teams to develop high-quality materials

  • Consult and collaborate with partners to ensure use cases and expectations are well understood.
  • Provide thoughtful suggestions to authors and other editors for substantive changes.

You verify and fact-check curricular materials.

  • Conduct research as needed to ensure technical quality and accuracy of materials.
  • Work with internal and external subject matter experts to ensure materials are correct.

You prepare training manuals, guides, and other support materials for conferences and events.

  • Edit video captions, slide decks, flashcards, and related materials as needed.
  • Compile information to be distributed as printed workbooks in support of programming.

  • Collaboration: You are a team player and collaborate well with others in making suggestions to improve our materials. You promote cooperation and commitment within your team to achieve goals and deliverables. 
  • Valuing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: You help create a work environment and program materials that embrace and appreciate diversity. You strive to eliminate barriers to achieving diversity and work to ensure new barriers to achieving diversity are not built. You respect the talents and contributions of all individuals and seek different perspectives. 
  • You have 3+ years of professional editing experience in the education industry (EdTech, Services, K-12, etc.) 
  • You have 2+ years of experience working with or developing K-12 educational curricula.

It would also be nice if you had:

  • You have expertise in the Chicago Manual of Style guidelines.

While this description is meant to provide an overview of the Curriculum Editor's responsibilities, we are seeking candidates who demonstrate flexibility and can adapt to evolving needs in an entrepreneurial environment.

Compensation
Our compensation values: At Springboard, compensation equity is integral to the way we operate and our commitment to competitiveness, pay equity, performance-based rewards, transparent & equitable career growth, and progressive benefits.

Compensation for this role: Each role at Springboard is placed in a compensation band with 5 levels. Generally, we expect candidates that meet all the hiring criteria to be offered the midpoint of the band. This role sits within Band 3. The midpoint of this band is $82,183. The actual level of the successful candidate (and corresponding salary) will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, and other factors. You may also be eligible for Springboard's bonus program.

Our process to determine compensation: Springboard does not negotiate the offered salary during the offer conversation. Throughout the interview process, we will evaluate your alignment with the compensable factors listed in the job description. From there, we will determine your starting salary on a level within the job band.

Location and travel

Applications are welcome from any location within the United States. This role can be performed remotely, with quarterly travel to participate in team and org-wide retreats. This role may also require occasional travel to observe programming at partner sites. Springboard Collaborative’s headquarters office is in Philadelphia, PA.

Springboard requires in-person employees at a Springboard facility or participating in in-person SBC programming or events to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless a medical or religious exemption is approved. Being fully vaccinated means an individual is at least two weeks past their final dose of a CDC-authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. As a condition of employment, newly hired employees will be asked to provide their COVID-19 vaccination status and proof of vaccination, as required.
