POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a seasoned and highly skilled Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with expertise in SQL Server and Data Warehouse creation and management. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance tuning of our database systems, ensuring data integrity, security, and availability at all times. This role requires a deep understanding of SQL Server architecture, strong analytical abilities, and proficiency in optimizing database performance for both transactional and analytical workloads.

Preferred in the following local markets: Chicago, Colorado, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Phoenix

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server database systems to support business-critical applications and data warehouse solutions.
  • Manage database security, including user access control, role management, and data encryption, to ensure compliance with security policies and regulations.
  • Perform database performance tuning and optimization, including index tuning, query optimization, and database configuration optimization, to maximize system efficiency and responsiveness.
  • Monitor database systems proactively to identify and resolve issues before they impact performance or availability.
  • Implement and maintain database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime in the event of system failures or disasters.
  • Collaborate with developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to optimize database design, schema, and queries for performance and scalability as needed.
  • Plan and execute database upgrades, patches, and migrations in coordination with application development and infrastructure teams.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including database schemas, configurations, and procedures, to facilitate knowledge sharing and ensure system reliability.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior DBAs and support teams, assisting in troubleshooting and resolving complex database issues.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends and best practices in database technology, continuously enhancing skills and knowledge to drive innovation and improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field; Master's degree preferred. Equivalent experience is acceptable.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a focus on SQL Server administration and Data Warehouse management.
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL Server architecture, including database internals, storage structures, and query processing mechanisms.
  • Proficiency in SQL programming, stored procedures, triggers, and T-SQL scripting for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Experience with Data Warehouse concepts and methodologies, including dimensional modeling, ETL processes, and OLAP technologies.
  • Strong understanding of database security principles and best practices, with hands-on experience implementing security controls and auditing mechanisms.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues quickly and effectively.
  • Solid understanding of high availability and disaster recovery solutions for SQL Server, such as clustering, replication, and AlwaysOn Availability Groups.
  • Familiarity with database monitoring and performance tuning tools, such as SQL Server Profiler, Performance Monitor, and Query Store.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Certification in Microsoft SQL Server (e.g., MCSA: SQL Server, MCSE: Data Management and Analytics).
  • Experience with cloud-based database platforms, such as Azure SQL Database or Amazon RDS for SQL Server.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools and techniques for reporting and analytics, such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies and DevOps practices for database deployment and automation.
  • Experience with other database technologies, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle is a plus.

The pay range for this role is between $100,000 - $130,000 (base). Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, location, and other job-related reasons.
