Full Job Description
Linux Automation Engineer will have the opportunity to help accelerate nearly all aspects of technical operations to maximize team efficacy, efficiency, and satisfaction. Linux Automation Engineer will help to identify and will design, develop, and deploy scripts and other automations to ensure quality, consistency, efficacy, and efficiency for infrastructure and other systems. Responsibilities will include Linux scripting and automation, participation in departmental engineering activities, standards setting, some Linux and Linux-based software administration, some issue/ticket triage and resolution, and some participation in 24x7 on-call activities.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Identify and design, develop, and deploy scripts and other automations
- Ensure quality, consistency, efficacy, and efficiency of deployments
- Linux scripting and automation
- Participation in departmental engineering activities and standards setting
- Linux and Linux-based software administration
- Some issue/ticket triage and resolution
- Participation in 24x7 on-call activities.
- Ability to harness creativity, initiative, and desire to lead efforts from their inception through their production use
- Comfort in dynamic, fast-paced, high-pressure environments
- Solutions, details, and results orientation
Environment/Conditions
This will be fully remote. This is a full-time position. Monday to Friday. Core office hours will be 8 hours within the range of hours. Depending on assigned responsibilities or projects, some nights and weekends will be required. This position will require ON CALL STATUS. Ability to travel within CON-US roughly four times annually
Requirements
- Minimum eight years experience with command-line Linux
- Expertise in command-line Linux
- Expertise in Linux shell scripting (Bash preferred)
- Expertise in scripting (Python and/or Perl preferred)
- Experience with various API frameworks (e.g., REST/RESTful, WebSockets, RPC)
- Experience with central configuration management, orchestration, monitoring/observability, and/or automation frameworks (Puppet preferred)
- Experience implementing DevOps solutions (e.g., automation, CT/CI/CD, IaC, etc.)
- Experiencing with large data systems
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or IT related field
In lieu of Degree, comparable experience in Systems Administration related work
Knowledge of secure systems.

Annual base salary range from $120,000 to $150,000
The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the Sphere salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and be based on various factors, such as qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. The base salary is one component of Sphere’s total compensation package for employees.
