AIChE, founded in 1908, is a professional society of more than 60,000 chemical engineers in 110 countries. The RAPID Manufacturing Institute, part of the Manufacturing USA network, operates out of AIChE, in partnership with the Department of Energy (DOE), as a collaborative technology ecosystem (development, scale-up, education) to enable the transformation of the process industries for a decarbonized, energy and capital efficient future further advancing U.S. manufacturing competitiveness.
Position Summary
The Project Manager works with RAPID’s Leadership to facilitate a wide range of technical and outreach activities within the RAPID Manufacturing Institute. The project manager works with RAPID staff to monitor and facilitate a portfolio of research projects and supports engagement with current/prospective RAPID members and the broader community.
Responsibilities
- Perform project management for RAPID R&D projects, including those resulting from the original DOE award and other additional projects from other sources
- Monitor project teams relative to milestones, identify any problems or successes, develop an understanding of the technical and financial project risks, work with project teams to clear roadblocks, assist with workplan changes, and assist with project close-outs
- Ensure project milestones, technical progress, project outputs and financials are properly reported to RAPID leadership and the DOE
- Work with senior-level RAPID technical team staff assist with strategic program management
- Maintain and upgrade RAPID member database including member technical and financial contacts and key member focus areas, projects, areas of interest, and participation in RAPID
- Assist in the implementation of routine member surveys to assess member satisfaction and test RAPID value proposition
- Assist with membership onboarding, renewal processes, database maintenance, and reporting requirements
- Provide logistics support for virtual and face-to-face meetings and events
Requirements
Education and Experience
- BS in chemical engineering or related discipline from an accredited university
- Excellent interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Experience leading and motivating a team or group of individuals in a project or project-like environment
- Excellent planning, organization and scheduling skills
- Experience with MS Office (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability adapt to new situations and quickly problem solve when issues arise
- Experience in chemical engineering science and process development
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic Project Management principles
- Experience with corporate, academic, government, and non-profit organizations
- Familiarity with team management (e.g., MS Teams), project management (e.g., Smartsheets) and web conferencing (e.g., Zoom) software

Work Environment
This is a rewarding and demanding position that requires a personal commitment to the missions of AIChE, RAPID, and the DOE, and the ability to handle a diverse project load. The position may be fulfilled via telecommuting by a candidate with demonstrated ability to work across geographic boundaries with multi-location teams. The position is expected to require approximately 20% travel time.
Compensation
• The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $80,000
