About the Roles
- We're hiring for both fully-remote roles as well as hybrid In-person + remote roles.
Love data, technology, and progressive politics? Have experience with tools like BigQuery, Data Engineering, dbt, Python, Action Network + Action Builder, understanding and correcting for racial and other bias in voter file and modeling data, NGP VAN, Redshift, Looker (formerly Google Data Studio), Tableau, etc. as well as experience teaching people how to use some of those tools? Does the thought of helping train the next generation of progressive data managers and technologists get you excited? Then, my friend, this might be the role for you.
Generation Data
Generation Data is a mission driven non-profit. Our focus is training the next generation of diverse leaders in the progressive data management and analytics. And we like to have lots of fun along the way too! All of our online trainings are delivered free of charge. For our in-person trainings, we charge a small fee to those with the ability to pay.
Responsibilities (May Vary for Different Trainers)
- Serve as a front of room (or front on Zoom) instructor delivering 60 - 120 minute lessons on a given topic
- If instructional materials do not exist for a given topic, work with Head of Curriculum and Training and/or Training Manager to develop those materials
- Serve as a coach during instructional sessions fielding student questions in Slack and breakouts and guiding groups of 8-10 students through exercises designed to solidify their understanding of a given topic
- Hold office hour sessions with students to answer questions
- Participate in planning and debrief meetings related to curriculum and trainings
- Provide written and verbal feedback / assessments both to Generation Data team and students
- Assist with professional development components of our trainings such as mock interviews, resume reviews, etc.
- For in-person classes, travel to and from training locations
- All travel and accommodation related expenses will be covered and meals or meal per diems will be provided

Strongly Sought
- Knowledge of + professional experience with one or more of the following: BigQuery, dbt, Python, Data Engineering, Action Network + Action Builder, understanding and correcting for racial and other bias in voter file and modeling data, NGP VAN, Redshift, Looker (formerly Google Data Studio) or Tableau
- If you don't have experience working with / teaching one of these tools or concepts, but you have other technical experience and are willing to learn we still encourage you to apply
- Experience training people in mid-sized groups (20-30 people)
Nice to Have:
- Experience in / knowledge of the progressive + pro-democracy political space
- Formal educational / pedagogical background + training
Some important details
- This is a part-time contract position in support of both in-person and virtual trainings we have coming up in Q1 - Q3 of 2024
- For our in person trainings in Atlanta the first week of March 5-8 and Washington, DC in April and again in May travel is required for some trainers / coaches
- All travel and accommodation related expenses will be covered and meals or meal per diems will be provided
- Compensation is on a tiered $35-$55 /hr scale
- Some weekend hours may be required
- We're hiring for 3-5 part-time trainer roles
- You’ll be provided training, instructional materials, lesson plans, and support from Generation Data staff. In cases where instructional materials and lesson plans don't exist, you'll receive support from Generation Data staff in creating these
