Full Job Description
Planet Argon provides dependable support and maintenance of existing Ruby on Rails apps for a variety of clients in different industries. We take care of small feature updates, bug fixes, and performance improvements.
We are currently looking for an experienced Ruby on Rails Engineer that can provide 20-30 hours/week support for our clients and our team on a contract basis. The relationship would start as a three-month contract engagement; should both parties want to continue working together after those 90 days, we can agree to either a longer-term contract or a month-to-month arrangement.
We know that there are some people who aren't looking to find their forever-employment-home at the moment and would just like an opportunity to get experience on different types of software projects. Does this sound like you? We should talk!

Requirements
The ideal candidate has:
- 5+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails
- Ability to clearly and competently convey your thoughts and ideas verbally and in emails, JIRA tickets, and Slack messages
- Experience collaborating with clients, stakeholders, and decision makers
- Deep understanding of how SQL and GraphQL databases work and how to interface them
- Proficient in Git and able to help others with rebasing, merge conflicts, etc.
- Experience writing automated tests for Ruby on Rails and React apps with Rspec, Test Unit, Cypress
- Moderate experience with Docker, Continuous Integration systems, etc.
- Experience with AWS and Heroku
- Familiarity working in Scrum-esque project workflows
- Experience leading workshops or client presentations
- Knowledge of HTML and understanding of CSS/Sass
- Experience with JavaScript frameworks like React
- Knowledge of software design patterns and experience with implementation
Availability and Location
The ideal contractor is comfortable working remotely within 1-2 hours of EST timezone.
South and Latin American contractors are highly encouraged to apply.
This is a remote part-time contract position. The ideal candidate will be available for periodic meetings during EST business hours.
Benefits
Our ideal contractor has an hourly rate of $45.00 - $65.00 USD.
We address monthly or bi-weekly invoices within 10 business days.
