About the Role:
We are seeking a Senior Accounting Manager with experience across financial accounting, reporting, and payroll management to join our team at Loam Bio. This role will see you responsible for maintaining Loam’s financial health, ensuring adherence to budgets and accountability for expenditures within the US market.
In this position, you will manage two direct reports while contributing to the financial reporting process, ensuring the quality and compliance of financial outputs, including adherence to statutory obligations and the timeliness of filings. You will also assist in performing financial analyses that align with the company's objectives.
This is a remote position and can be based anywhere in the United States. Our US entity is based in St Paul, Minnesota and for this reason, infrequent travel to St Paul may be required for this role
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the US accounting function ensuring timely and accurate recording of transactions in compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
- Provide payroll subject matter expertise to ensure compliance, accuracy and best practices are applied to the USA payroll function
- Manage a small finance team of two direct reports
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports
- Coordinate the year-end audit process, liaising with external auditors and providing all necessary documentation
- Drive process improvements in financial reporting and develop and maintain internal controls
- Manage the general ledger and perform account reconciliations
- Monitor and analyze financial data, identifying trends, variances, and areas for improvement
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and manage tax reporting and filing
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support strategic decision-making and provide financial insights
- Stay up-to-date with changes in accounting standards and regulation
- Ensure timely and accurate lodgement of statutory requirements
Note: This role may also cover some of Australia, therefore Australian market experience is highly advantageous.
Requirements
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a similar discipline is required; holding a CPA qualification is an advantage, though not mandatory
- Background in financial accounting and reporting is necessary
- Proficiency in handling payroll, including familiarity with multi-state payroll systems
- Comprehensive understanding and application of GAAP and accounting principles are essential
- Practical experience with accounting software is required
- Skilled in the preparation and review of financial statements and reports
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, complemented by meticulous attention to detail
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience in utilizing ERP systems and possessing high-level skills in MS Excel
- Familiarity with tax regulations and a background in tax reporting and compliance are beneficial
- Experience working across the United States and Australia is advantageous
