Full Job Description
Movement Labs is a movement incubator and the leading peer-to-peer text political consultancy supporting progressives and grassroots activists nationwide. Our clients span both establishment and movement efforts, from senior Democratic Congressional leadership to Black Lives Matter. Your work will help generate more votes in the top battleground states to stop Donald Trump than Biden’s 2020 win margin - and recruit thousands of candidates for 100,000 elections that go uncontested every year.
We seek an experienced platform developer with a background in reliability engineering to help us ensure that our scaled outreach programs generate 100,000 votes against Donald Trump in November. We are particularly excited about having someone with experience in messaging service management.
You’re a talented, senior software engineer and technologist with experience developing enterprise level platforms on Google Cloud infrastructure (a deep passion for fascism stomping and a willingness to work in a scrappy and unconventional start-up also helps).
You'll work closely with our Lead engineer and report to the CTO. This role is fully remote.
Responsibilities
- Be the lead developer for stability and volume-related features within our core tech stack
- Execute stress testing and manage QA initiatives to ensure system robustness and performance under load
- Manage up-time and bug responses, including collaborating with other engineers to resolve issues swiftly
- Design and implement scalable, reliable, and secure systems on GCP, utilizing services such as Compute Engine, Cloud Run, Kubernetes Engine, and BigQuery
- Implement and manage observability practices, leveraging GCP’s monitoring and logging services
Qualifications
- 4-7 years of reliability-focused engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on cloud-based infrastructure, particularly GCP
- Comfort with language/systems that we use such as Node.js, Python, and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes
- Messaging and SMS experience preferred
- Strong understanding of network architecture, security best practices, and tools like Terraform
- GCP Certifications a plus
- Passion for the Movement Labs mission to squash fascism
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary of $100,000-180,000 depending on experience and location as part of a transparent salary structure with clear levels of advancement and potential for bonus.
- Excellent health, dental, and vision benefits, 401(k) matching, work-from-home stipends, and unlimited Paid Time Off.
- This role is a cycle-based hire through November, but our philosophy is to keep great people around after election cycles, and we hope to find opportunities to extend where possible.
- This position is not eligible for the collective bargaining unit.
We’re looking for candidates with a wide range of skills and experience. If you’re excited about the job, even if you don’t match all of the characteristics, we encourage you to apply.
To apply, please submit your resume and answer the following questions in workable:
- Explain a challenging problem you solved using GCP to handle large traffic.
- How do your personal identities and experiences – particularly along the lines of race, age, gender, class, geography, etc – contribute to your interest in working in this movement? We're curious to learn more about you and why you're interested in working with us to build political power.
- Why do you want to work with Movement Labs? What do you hope to contribute? What do you hope to learn?
Cover letters not requested.
Applications submitted by 6/14 will be given priority.
