This is a fully remote opportunity based in the Americas OR Europe.

As a Software Engineering Manager with a focus on build systems, compilers and languages, you will have an opportunity to lead core engineers who built Bazel, contribute to Bazel, gRPC, Goma, Soong, CMake and other open source projects, and develop core features of our platform, solving complex challenges like scalability and real time performance. There is plenty of opportunity for experimentation, testing out the latest tech, and building a scalable product to be used by some of your most favorite tech companies. Our customers include Brave Software, Blue River Technology and Snap, among many others.
EngFlow is a SaaS company funded by Andreessen Horowitz and other top investors, and is redefining how companies build software and ship well-tested products. Its remote execution service speeds up software builds and tests by a factor of 10 or more, and observability platform provides actionable insights to optimize builds and tests. Created by core team members who developed Bazel (Google's open source build system) and led its community adoption, EngFlow builds tools and connects experts in the Bazel and build ecosystem. EngFlow products are used by engineers from startups to Fortune 500 companies to accelerate developer productivity and positively impact engineering culture.

Requirements
This role reports into the Head of Product Engineering at EngFlow, and is expected to grow from starting as an IC into a team manager. You will work on both product and platform engineering, leading projects, teams, and employees to reach ambitious goals that align with our product roadmap. You’ll thrive in this role if you have the ability to balance the following: manage and influence highly technical employees while jumping into the work when needed, to help troubleshoot and ultimately reach solutions.
Qualifications
- Proactive team player who doesn’t mind rolling up their sleeves to get the job done. You embody EngFlow’s value of perseverance to work through complex and frustrating technical issues. You’re flexible and adaptable to shifting priorities based on customer needs, and can successfully message evolving requirements to your team(s).
- Passion for optimization and analyzing complex challenges and intricate details of various compilers and programming languages
- Deep expertise with at least one build system: Bazel, CMake, Maven, Gradle, Nix, Buck, others
- Experience with and passion for DevOps and DevInfra
- Experience in Linux and the Unix shell
- Experience with at least one Cloud infrastructure: AWS, Azure, GCP, OpenShift, Oracle Cloud. Terraform experience is a plus.
- Programming proficiency with Java (C++, Rust, others welcome in addition)
- Asynchronous programming experience
- Experience delivering software at scale and maintaining operations excellence
- Experience managing multiple technical projects at once with tight deadlines
- Previous hands-on management experience (remote team management experience is a plus). You prioritize EngFlow’s “Happy Team” objective in your deliverables
- Conflict resolution skills and experience
- Note: You will be part of an on-call rotation to support production issues that are escalated to the Engineering team
