Full Job Description
Patrols campus buildings, equipment, and facilities checking fire safety equipment, building security and building equipment. Serves as liaison between Bread Loaf campus and the Department of Public Safety.
This is considered a part time non benefits eligible non-exempt position. The starting salary range for the position is $19.26 - $23.59 per hour.
Responsibilities
*Maintains radio and/or telephone contact with Department of Public Safety dispatch throughout the watch.
*Patrols campus buildings and grounds per prescribed route and check points.
*Monitors sprinkler systems and fire extinguishers for correct operating pressure and function.
*Reports damage to buildings, maintenance work required and safety violations to supervisor.
*Completes written reports summarizing nightly rounds.
*Locks and unlocks buildings.
*Assists Department of Public Safety staff as necessary.
*Notifies Department of Public Safety of emergency or hazardous situations/conditions.
Performs associated Facilities Services maintenance work as requested, including, but not limited to: snow removal, event set-up and cleanup, truck loading and unloading and trash/debris cleaning.
*Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.
*Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Middlebury College and departmental policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned to assist department in obtaining and maintaining its mission.
Requirements
Education & Training
High school diploma preferred. On-the-job training as to procedures and policies.
Experience
Previous experience in security/watchman position helpful.
Knowledge
Knowledge of general operation of campus alarm systems and maintenance/machine areas helpful. General knowledge of mechanical systems such as circuit breaker panels, compressors, sprinkler systems, heating systems and door hardware.
Other
Must have driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record. Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
Must interact appropriately with customers and College community. Ability to work flexible shifts, overtime and holidays.
Position requires long periods of walking, climbing stairs, standing, crouching and bending.
Must be able to lift 10-25 lbs. numerous times each day and up to 50 lbs. on occasion.
Must handle confidential matters with appropriate discretion and pass background check.
