Requirements
Senior Energy Engineer: This is where you come in.
We are seeking an outstanding Senior Energy Engineer to join MacDonald Miller as a member of our growing engineering team. The energy engineers support the Performance Contracting (PC) team, which focuses on optimization and energy efficiency of existing buildings. In this role you will perform ASHRAE Level I & II audits assessing, identifying, and analyzing energy savings opportunities in existing buildings, develop scopes of work for identified Energy Efficiency Measures (EEMs), analyze building operation via building DDC trending and/or deploying data loggers, calculate energy savings for identified EEMs, develop Measurement and Verification plans, and work to secure available incentives, rebates, and grants. The analysis of the buildings and energy systems will be published in a Benchmark report, Preliminary Scoping Assessment, Preliminary Audit, or an Investment Grade Audit. You will attend customer meetings and be prepared to articulate your findings and proposed EEMs directly to the customer. You will also have a firm understanding of the Washington State Clean Buildings Performance Standard and be proficient with the compliance requirements.
Know and keep up to date on industry standards, laws and regulations related to Energy Engineering and PC. Be familiar with Washington State Department of Enterprise Services (DES) regulations and procedures.
Top deliverables in the first year to be a hero:
- Mentor Energy Engineers and Design Engineers on conducting Energy Audits, Benchmarks, and performing energy saving calculations.
- Perform Preliminary Scoping Assessment/Preliminary Audit, Seattle Building Tune-ups, or an Investment Grade Audit as assigned in a timely fashion. Be familiar with the upcoming Seattle Building Emissions Performance Standard (BEPS).
- Develop tools and processes to expedite the development of reports/Investment Grade Audits.
- Track hourly budgets and complete tasks and projects within the allotted hours.
- Exhibit authentic respect for colleagues and a sincere commitment to serving both internal and external customers, fostering trusted relationships.
Your background: What kind of person will thrive in this role?
You should have…
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or related field. A degree is strongly preferred but an outstanding candidate who possesses equivalent work experience that provides a reasonable understanding of PC projects will be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in auditing buildings (ASHRAE Level I & II Audits), gathering relevant trend and drawing information, and performing energy calculations utilizing excel.
- Writing reports and delivering presentations to customers from entry-level to executive level.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and building control systems.
- A Professional Engineer (PE) license is strongly preferred.
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM) Certification from the Association of Energy Engineers is strongly preferred.
- Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) from the Association of Energy Engineers is preferred.
- Familiarity with Washington Clean Buildings Standard requirements and implementation timelines.
- Proficiency in managing multiple projects of diverse sizes and complexities, consistently establishing goals and meeting deadlines.
- Experience in Microsoft Suite of programs: Excel, Word, & MS Project.

Benefits
Compensation: $100,000 to $125,000 Annually

Where you will work
- Our Seattle HQ office (17930 International Blvd, SeaTac, WA 98188) has easy access to the SeaTac International Airport, ample secured parking, and newly renovated office facilities - not to mention great views! Neighborhood amenities include an onsite deli, restaurants, and convenient freeway/airport access. We use a hybrid work arrangement, where engineers are expected to be in the office at least two days per week. The days in the office will be the same standard days of the week when other members of our team will be there. Remote work is allowed for the other three days of the week, although some team members choose to be in the office 5 days per week.
