In Manitowoc we heavily support automotive customers with flexible sound barrier and non-carpet flooring sheet. Our sound barrier product also is used in building and construction and energy markets for sound control applications. Manitowoc also produces black color concentrate pellets which are used in our customers process to color their end products.
We are currently looking for a Production Lead Operator to join our team to support our variety of customers. Job Summary:
This position is an advanced-level position within the manufacturing area. The Production Lead Operator will be responsible for setting up and operating extruder and/or pelletizing machinery to manufacture plastic sheet or pellets and performing quality testing. Ensures the highest quality product at the lowest possible cost and meets customer specifications and delivery requirements in accordance with Spartech policies and procedures. In addition, the Production Lead Operator is responsible for housekeeping and 5S performance in the area.
Essential Job Duties:
- Accomplish the duties of the job utilizing safe work habits and maintaining a safe workplace
- Required to direct and assist co-workers in work functions
- Required to direct and assist during change over’s
- Required to inspect finished rolls, vacuum if dust is visible and inspect each roll for non-conforming characteristics [i.e., angel hair, loose rolls, roll weave or bad cuts]
- Must be able to read and understand shop orders
- Communicate effectively with shift lead and associated personnel in all phases of the operation and processes, both written and oral
- Perform cleaning task of equipment and plant
- Record daily total down time with reason codes
- Perform SQC and quality testing
- Operate forklifts as required (Change gas cylinders and/or do general maintenance as required)
- Operate Hoist and pallet jack when needed
- Must be able to work a full schedule workweek and fulfill overtime requirements as needed
- Perform any additional direction/duties from shift lead
- Competency in plant operator positions.
- Direct and coach individuals as part of the Production Lead Operator duties
Additional Responsibilities:
- Will be required to train other employees
- Active participant in Kaizen and lean events

Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Must possess above average math and reading skills
- Requires the ability to complete paperwork accurately and timely
Mental Demands:
- Requires good hand/eye coordination and good vision
- Must be a self-starter and team oriented
- Must be conscious of all safety aspects affecting the manufacturing operations
