Search Engine Marketing Specialist

The SEM Specialist is responsible for strengthening and broadening Thorlabs’ digital reach by optimizing the organization’s SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and pay-per-click (PPC) advertising efforts, ensuring all messaging is in line with Thorlabs’ brand standards.

Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations. 

Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:

• Serves as a subject matter expert for SEO and Paid Search Ads with an eye towards constant improvement and informed suggestions.
• Consults with the SEM Manager to develop, deploy, and track performance of one-time and ongoing Google Ad and SEO/SEO-related projects, including keyword research, search engine results page analysis, competitor analysis, product and application research, and A/B testing.
• Creates Google Ad assets, including keywords, data feed, ad copy, visual assets, and extensions for go-live approval by the SEM Manager.
• Stays up to date on best practices, algorithm updates, and new technologies, becoming an internal SEO expert.
• Partners with internal stakeholders to assist in the development and deployment of product-specific SEO audits, including keyword research, search engine results page analysis, product and application research, and competitor analysis.
• Collects and analyzes key metrics for online content across multiple platforms (Google Ads and Analytics) with an eye towards identifying potential areas for growth.
• Collaborates with Digital Marketing and internal stakeholders to develop needs-based tools for SEO reporting.
• Becomes an internal marketing liaison for questions pertaining to Google Analytics and drives improvement through suggestions based on thoughtful analysis.

• Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work-related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
• Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.

Physical Activities:

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. The employee may occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds.

Requirements

Experience:

• 2 plus years of relevant work experience. 

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Marketing or Science. 

Specialized knowledge and Skills:

• Familiarity with SEO Best Practices
• Prior experience managing Google Ad assets and copy preferred.
• Great presentation and communication skills with the ability to understand the audience, to structure effective presentations, and distill key messages to effectively inform and persuade.
• Ability to flourish with minimal guidance, in a dynamic, fast-changing environment, and be proactive in times of ambiguity.
• Expertise in writing brand-consistent content that meets project goals and addresses user needs.
• Strong Organizational and Planning Skills
• Ability to multitask, be detail oriented, and to solve problems, all while under tight time constraints.
• Willingness to continually learn about new products and technologies and their applications.
